The Brief

Johns Associates designed proposals for the wetland and a SANG, site of alternative natural greenspace, with an accessible footpath route for the benefit of both wildlife and people.

Our Role

• Design a 2.5km route of surfaced pathways that weaves through the wetland meadow to cater for all abilities and interests for year round access.
• Material dug for the wetland ponds to be retained on site and incorporated into the design.
• Make improvements for wildlife, including the conversion of rush dominated grassland into the wetland feature providing significant enhancement for amphibians and reptiles.
• Provide services throughout the design process, including supporting the local authority at tender stage and with the appointment of the contractor and works on site.

The Outcome

The new wetlands and SANG footpath route are well-used and enjoyed for recreation by the local community and visitors. The ponds control the flow and retention of water and provide benefits for wildlife.
